Variants of Streptomyces griseus induced by ultraviolet radiations.

چکیده
The search for microorganisms giving higher yields of desired fermentation products has profited from the use of mutagenic agents. This approach has proved especially valuable in the isolation of superior strains of antibiotic producing cultures. However, large numbers of isolates must be tested because many are inferior to or no better than the parent organism. There is need for a method which will increase the probability of isolating superior variants. In the present study of ultraviolet induced mutations in Streptomyces griseus such a method has been applied and evaluated.

Action Spectra for Photoreactivation of Ultraviolet-irradiated Escherichia Coli and Streptomyces Griseus
Action spectra for photoreactivation (light-induced recovery from ultraviolet radiation injury) of Escherichia coli B/r and Streptomyces griseus ATCC 3326 were determined. The spectral region explored was 365 to 700 mmicro. The action spectrum for S. griseus differed from that for E. coli, indicating that the chromophores absorbing reactivating energy in the two species were not the same. React...
متن کاملOxidation of Meloxicam by Streptomyces griseus
The aim of the present investigation was to biotransform the anti-inflammatory compound meloxicam by enzymes present in whole cells of five actinomycete cultures to produce novel bioactive derivatives. Among the actinomycetes screened, Streptomyces griseus NCIM 2622 was found to possess the enzyme system(s) that oxidize meloxicam into two metabolites whereas that present in S. griseus NCIM 2623...

Introduction: Streptomyces species are mycelial, aerobic gram-positive bacteria that are isolated from soil and produce a diverse range of antibiotics. Streptomyces griseus produces the antibiotic, streptomycin and forms spores even in a liquid culture. The gene cluster for the production of Streptomycin antibiotic contains strR gene that encodes StrR, a pathway-specific regulator. Then, this p...
متن کاملStreptomycin-induced expression in Bacillus subtilis of YtnP, a lactonase-homologous protein that inhibits development and streptomycin production in Streptomyces griseus.
Bacillus subtilis induces expression of the gene ytnP in the presence of the antimicrobial streptomycin, produced by the Gram-positive bacterium Streptomyces griseus. ytnP encodes a lactonase-homologous protein that is able to inhibit the signaling pathway required for the streptomycin production and development of aerial mycelium in S. griseus.
